Looking
back at media diet just a decade ago and what I consume now is rather shocking
how the landscape has changed so quickly. I remember back in my early twenties
I would wake up in the morning and check my email for daily email notifications
of major new centers with a recap of the news from the prior day and a list of
things to watch for today. Twitter was always one of my major sources because
it was so quick to pick up any news and spread it like wildfire. What gave
Twitter the advantage over the other social media platforms were the hashtag’s
that allowed for anyone searching trend to find it and see what was happening
all over the world. I used newspapers
very rarely, and I never had the hard copy of it because it would just be
inconvenience to get one so I would only look online for articles that sparked
my interest. Lastly television was
always great for news, but I never had the time to watch it in my youth and the
only time I would ever see a broadcast would be online after I found the link
on Twitter.
Now in the
present day of 2025 when I wake up my media diet is quite different not only
because of the technological advances but I am also at a different stage of my
life. I awake every morning with my IPhone (yes there are still IPhones, just a
lot thinner and the battery actually last longer) buzzing because it is
starting to receive articles from across the world. The technology has advanced
so rapidly that breaking news across the world gets reported directly to one
globe server where everyone can tune-in and see what is taking place for
themselves. Twitter has gone through major restructures but still leads the
game in social media because of critical it has become to the news world. The
great thing about it now is that everyone my age has their accounts from when
they were teens and so does the generation below us. This allows for more
people to be connected online and give a better sense of what is happening all
over the world. Lastly print newspapers are essentially dead because everything
has moved online, they still produce a few thousand copies everyday but its
nowhere near what it use to be.
