What They are Wearing: IP Pavlova, Praha 2

During my stay here in Praha for the past four months, I have been bombarded with so many new cultural experiences. From the new Czech cuisines to figuring out the public transportation system, I've come to appreciate what Praha is all about. You can say four months is too short of a time to really know everything about the Czech Republic, the culture, and the history behind this country. However, from getting wonderfully lost in the rows of Baroque and Neo-classical archiecture--occasionally stopping by at KFC to mooch off their wifi for directions--to exploring the city at night with the friends, I like to think that Prague has become home to me. Yes, coming from always sunny California to sub-zero weather has made let me to buy ridiculous amounts of coats I can never wear in LA. Yes, I may have adapted chleba (bread) and syr (cheese) as my main source of diet. Yes, I have adapted smoking. Sorry mom and dad. Yes, I have been one of those who's drunkenly chased after the 51 night tram. But the biggest YES is the fact that I have learned to appreciate everything that I have seen and experienced here in Prague. It may not mean I've learned everything, but one thing that I know I've gained more than anything is the quality of not only tolerating but embracing . Something specific I've embraced is the everyday fashion sense of the locals. Back in La, there is a huge fashion culture--everyone knows what is in, what will be in, and what you shouldn't dare to wear. Here, there is no hype on brands nor do people mold to fashion restraints constructed by the media or certain icons. Rather, people dress how they feel. In other words...people just don't give a fuck. At first, I thought, "Do people just not know how to dress?" Four months later, i've learned not to care because in the end, it really doesn't matter. Who cares if you're wearing a mini skirt with jeans underneath? If Rhianna was spotted on Instagram with that on, next thing you know, everyone and their mom would be rockin' it in LA. Where's the originality in what has already been hyped? What actually matters is the fact that you are doing you. People in the Czech Republic have taught me to embrace this culture. You couldn't say that here in Praugue, theres a #basicbitch wearing Ugg boots, Lululemon leggings, and a North Face jacket. What a breath of fresh air. And with knowing this, I am happy to say I can be another individual living amongst other individuals in Prague. Here, I have collected a few photos capturing the very eclectic sense of fashion from just the normal humans of I.P. Pavlova, the hub for all Czech locals and the place I can call my "hood." Enjoy.

@OndrejBartos teaches us to dream big even before we get our diplomas. As a partner of Credo Ventures, Bartos works to incorporate fun and success into several business enterprises. I left our meeting with a “take the risk” feeling – just go for it, because if you don’t, you’ll never know where it could lead. However, don’t forget to be smart about it. Ondrej strongly supports the importance of mapping out your goals and executing a plan. As a job-hunting college student, it was extremely insightful to hear from such an experienced entrepreneur – great talking to you, Ondrej.

Humans of Vysehrad

Jordana Norry, Rachel Sarraf
Why did you come to Vysehrad?

It's a famous place with a lot of history.
It is part of the foundation of Prague.
It is our Third time here, we learn something new every time.

Do you travel around Prague?

Not really - we have a child and have to work.
We like to bring our child to Vysehrad, it takes about 15-20 minutes to get here.

Clay Attig Midterm

Part 1
“Good Morning Mr. Attig. It’s 6:45 am. You need to leave for work in one hour. Would you like me to warm the shower up for you?”
“Yes, Siri. Thank you. Project my calendar and read the daily headlines.”
“Right away, Mr. Attig.”
As I open my eyes, and lift my head, the wall facing my bed displays my calendar, current events, messages, and weather information. I go up to it and read what looks interesting as my shower warms up and my 3d printer finishes up making the new shoes I downloaded on Amazon the night before. Then as siri tells me the shower is ready, I grab my tablet and drag an article about a manned space team going back to Mars from the wall onto it, and bring it into the bathroom to mount it on the wall of the shower as I get ready for the day.
The world in the year 2025 will be much different than the world we know today. Talking to your house will be normal, your car will drive you to work in the morning, and everything--and I mean everything--will be automated. Technology is already becoming an indispensable part of our daily lives, and it will continue to grow exponentially. If it continues on this trend, then all of the futuristic predictions that seemed impossible only 20 years ago will be a reality.
The news will be a lot different than it is today as well. Most of the big news groups that tried to stick with the ad-fueled news will have failed, and only the large conglomerates with enough money and know-how to adapt will have stayed afloat. However, with the increasing accessibility of the internet and wearable technology, first-person Citizen Journalism will have changed the way we get news. Now instead of news being filtered through a news agency, first responders to news events cover what’s going on in order to inform the masses. News agencies are reserved for more in-depth coverage of events, and use a low cost subscription fee for readers who want real critical coverage of events and opinions. News Agencies are nowhere near as popular in 2025 as they were in 2014. They will have lost a lot of trust by then.
By having everything automated and immediately accessible, people’s patience will drop drastically, and they will have a feeling of entitlement to free information. But as a result, we will be able to solve big problems more quickly and effectively due to this freedom of information and accessibility of products and items.

Part 2
If I could change one thing in the Czech Republic to make everyone’s lives better, I would get rid of all of scary, dangerous elevators, and replace them with nice, smooth, safe elevators for everyone to enjoy their ride to work in. Also, I’d put elevators in all of the buildings that don’t currently have them. Let’s be honest. No one enjoys climbing up four flights of stairs just to get back to their home.
Besides being convenient for everyone and making ascending to the top floor instantaneous, it would also have many benefits for handicapped people. Prague, as it exists now, is not handi-capable by any means. Most buildings don’t have elevators, and the ones that do are usually too small to fit a wheelchair inside, and they have uneven floors from the elevator to the outside platform. Replacing all of the elevators in Prague would be a huge improvement for everyone, especially the elderly and handicapped.

Part 3
Do you eat Smazeny Syr on a regular basis?
What is your favorite lesser-known Czech beer?
Does your dog eat kibble or canned food?

Humans of Vyšehrad

"My mom is the person who has had the biggest impact on me. She's taught me everything. I used to hate her when I was little but now we are so much alike. She makes everyone feel at home. She is someone who would never leave someone out. We usually have like 50 people at our house for Christmas. When I go home, it's home."

Humans of Vyšehrad

What is the most spontaneous thing you have ever done in your life?

“Oh I don’t know, that’s a very difficult question. I would have to say moving here was the most spontaneous thing I’ve done. I came here from London to teach English for 1 year and I stayed here for 4.”

What made you stay here and not go back to London?

“I met the love of my life. We met while teaching in the same school. We enjoy our jobs and we enjoy the opportunities we have to travel given the location of the Czech Republic ”

Jenna and Jelani's Humans of Vyšehrad

What was the happiest moment of your life?
"When I took this one (the baby) home. "

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?
San Francisco because I like the weather, landscapes, and atmosphere. It's the most European city in America.
